Snapping is the attraction of the cursor to a grid line. When creating new objects or moving/sizing existing objects, snap locks the cursor to the nearest grid line if the Snap to ruler option is active in File | Options | Rulers and Grid. You can also snap to a line while drawing a polyline or polygon by holding down the CTRL key as you draw the curve or area.
